AELLA T 45 OPENWORKED
After over 50 years since its first debut, LEUCOS launches a special edition of Aella, the iconic collection designed by the architect couple Toso & Massari. A journey of over half a century, from 1968 to 2024, marked by a unique and inimitable design. The Aella T 45 "openworked" is a tabletop version inspired by high-end Swiss watches, where the beauty and complexity of the mechanics are exposed rather than hidden. "Openworked" enhances the timeless elegance of Aella and, at the same time, distinguishes it from the 1968 edition with a cutting-edge, confident design that doesn't hesitate to show itself without veils. With a delicate and airy aesthetic, the lamp features a transparent hand-blown glass diffuser with a white paste color spot. The size and intensity of the spot depend on the skillful touch of the Maestro glassmaker who will create unique, original pieces every time that are never the same. It is precisely this touch that makes the diffuser an original LEUCOS branded piece. The transparent base provides a unique perspective into the essence of the light source. Collected inside a borosilicate glass cylinder, the two raw natural copper stems, which over time will oxidize and acquire a unique and distinctive patina, serve as a support for the COB and as conductive channels for the electrical wires that power energy to the diffused light of the LED (2700K or 3000 K). Just as the transparent base structure, the use of copper symbolizes a changeable and unpredictable design that is not afraid to face the passage of time. Under the base, a brushed stainless steel plate with laser engraving displays the lamp's name, production year, serial number, the designers' signature Toso & Massari, and last but not least, the LEUCOS spot logo. Finally, the "Openworked" edition is characterized by exclusive packaging, where each element is carefully curated to make the purchasing experience as "special" as the edition itself. Leucos, You spot it from afar.
Renato Toso was born in Murano in 1940; Giovanna Noti Massari in Venice in 1939. They both graduated in Architecture in Venice, and got married to each other in 1968. They live and work in the town of Zero Branco (TV), working on projects in the field of architecture, furniture, renovation and design. Their relationship with Leucos is not only professional but also emotional, as they participated in its founding. In fact, Leucos is the result of their passion, cultivated and experienced since their childhood in their father’s glass-making shop (Fratelli Toso), where tiles, glass panes, objects lamps and modular elements were designed. In the architecture sector, they designed the school complex of Scandolara (TV), a few renovation projects in the historical centre of Venice, display and exhibition venues and halls for various companies (among which the Leucos offices in Scorzè-VE). Since 2002 they have been working in East Africa and Tanzania at the request of the Benedictine Monks of the Camaldoli Community, designing three monasteries in Mafinga, Dar es Salam and Karatu (Ngorongoro). In the design field, they work with various companies: from industrial inlays to padded furniture, from home furnishings to fabrics, in addition to, of course, lighting fixtures and objects made of glass. They held solo exhibitions at Palazzo Grassi in Venice, participated in group exhibitions at the Louvre Museum, at the Pompidou Centre in Paris and at the MOMA in New York, in addition to having received many awards and acknowledgements at the international level.
